Introduction
73% of the Australian population live in major cities, and this percentage is predicted to grow over the coming years [3]. As these cities grow, so does the need to design sustainable solutions that can support healthier, more resilient communities. Whether it’s improving public transport, creating greener buildings, or managing waste and energy use more efficiently, the way we shape our cities will be one of the things that determines the future of our planet and how we interact with it.
The sustainability choices that cities make will affect everything from the air people breathe and the jobs they pursue to the use of limited resources and the land that is available. Engaging students in systems thinking and intervention will help them develop the skills and knowledge they will need to tackle the very real sustainability challenges that we will face in the future.

Program Summary
During the program, students will be challenged to engage in systems level thinking to plan sustainability interventions. They will look at processes and logistics within a city environment to identify the most meaningful points at which to make a change.
Through the program, students will examine how sensors can increase efficiency, how renewables can support energy usage, how alternative materials can reduce waste, and more. Based on their systems level planning, and using their knowledge, students will use these technologies to design, prototype, test, and pitch their proposed interventions.
Taking part in this program, students will collaboratively:
